    Pitri Gayatri Mantra:

    देवताभ्यः पितृभ्यश्च महायोगिभ्यः एव च। नमः स्वाहायै स्वधायै नित्यमेव नमोनमः।।

It means salutations to the gods, pitras, great yogis, svaha and svadha all the time.

    Pitri, Baitarni and Salvation

With the commencement of the Sorha Saddha may all the godlike Pitri in the Pitri realm between heaven and earth obtain salvation, may all the Pitri cross the Baitarni River, and may the ancestral love be maintained.

May the blessings of the ancestors be maintained, May goodness and good wishes are maintained, and we are the remnants of the ancestors in today's form, aren't we?

Tarpan, Diyo Puja, Vishwedeva Brahman, and other pujas can be performed before the appointed time. There is a belief that if the Pinda is not donated at this time, the Pitris will not get it. Sanatana Philosophy largely acknowledges the importance of Pitri in the existence of life and the universe.

In Vedic Sanatan Sanskrit, Pitrikarma i.e. shraddha is usually performed twice, regular shraddha is performed on the tithi of death and another shraddha is performed during the period of Sorha shraddhas. May peace and happiness prevail in every family with the commencement of this year's Sorha Shraddha Wishing for the salvation of the Pitri who passed away on the panchami Shraddha date.

    Khasti Shraddha

    षष्ठी श्राद्ध

    Exclusive audio

Every year, during the Krishna Paksha (waning moon) of the month of Ashwin, Sorha Śrāddha is performed in the name of departed ancestors. The afternoon time (Aparahna) has been set for this ritual. Pind Daan (offering of rice balls to ancestors) must be performed within this period. Tarpan, Diyo Puja (lamp worship), Vishwadeva worship, and offerings to Brahmins can be performed before the specified time. There is a belief that if Pind Daan is not done within the designated period, the Pitris will not receive it. May the gates of heaven open, granting the Pitris eternal abode in Vaikuntha.

    Pitri Gayatri Mantra

    Devatābhyaḥ pitṛbhyaśca mahāyogibhyaḥ eva ca,

    Namaḥ svāhāyai svadhāyai nityameva namonamaḥ.

Its meaning is: Always bow to the gods, the ancestors (Pitris), the great yogis, as well as to Svaha and Svadha.

With the commencement of the Sorha Śrāddha (sixteen-day ancestor ritual), all the aspects of the fortnight will take on the form of Pitri Paksha (the fortnight dedicated to ancestors). May all the godlike Pitris residing in the Pitri Loka (the realm of ancestors) between heaven and earth attain liberation (moksha). May all Pitris be able to cross the Baitarni River, and may the love of the ancestors remain intact. May the blessings of the Pitris remain; may virtue and good wishes endure. After all, aren’t we ourselves the remnants and living forms of our ancestors?

In the Vedic Sanatan tradition, Pitri Karma (ancestor rites) or Śrāddha is generally performed twice a year — once on the death anniversary (tithi) of the Pitris, and once during the Sorha Śrāddha period. With the beginning of this year’s Sorha Śrāddha, may peace and happiness remain in every family. May the blessings of the Pitris be everlasting. May the gates of heaven open, and may the Pitris attain residence in Vaikuntha. On the Shashthi Śrāddha tithi, may the Pitris who have attained Vaikuntha receive liberation.

Hamro Patro - Connecting Nepali Communities
Hamro Patro is one of the first Nepali app to include Nepali Patro, launched in 2010. We started with a Nepali Calendar mobile app to help Nepalese living abroad stay in touch with Nepalese festivals and important dates in Nepali calendar year.
