    International Day of Family Remittances

    अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय परिवार रेमिटेयान्स दिवस

    Exclusive audio

Remittance is an important link that connects every drop of sweat shed abroad with every smile of happiness at home. Today, June 16, marks the “International Day of Family Remittances.” It is a special day to express respect and gratitude to all hardworking Nepali brothers and sisters who have left their homeland and are working tirelessly in foreign countries for the better future of their families.

Over the past two decades (20 years), there has been an unprecedented increase in global remittance flows. Statistics show that during this period, global remittance flows have increased fivefold.

Even during small or large global economic recessions or pandemics, the flow of remittances never stops. This is because migrant workers continue to work hard across borders to provide financial security to their families, no matter how difficult the situation. With the rapid development of technology and the increasing number of youths migrating in search of opportunities, the importance of remittances has grown even more in low- and middle-income countries. In modern times, a major share of remittances is now sent through mobile transfers (digital means).

Is your family dependent on remittances?

Remittance is the backbone that drives Nepal’s economy. In the past, informal channels like “Hundi” were widely used in Nepal to send money, and such practices have not been completely eliminated even today. However, in recent times, due to the increasing reach of remittance companies and financial service providers, the culture of sending money through formal (legal) channels has been growing positively.

Money sent through hundi is not secure and does not contribute to Nepal’s national foreign currency reserves. Therefore, for the development of the country and the safety of one’s money, it is always wise to use only banking or legal channels.

With the noble objective of making remittance services in Nepal simpler, safer, and more accessible, we launched the “Hamro Patro Remit” service.

On this special day, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to all our respected users, migrant Nepalis, and stakeholders who trust Hamro Patro Remit and have established it as “the best and most reliable way to send money to Nepal.” Your continuous trust is our greatest strength.

Let us properly utilize remittances and always send money through legal channels. Let us respect the loved ones who sacrifice their comfort and happiness abroad to support their families back home and honor their hard work.

Warm wishes to everyone on the occasion of the International Day of Family Remittances!

Hamro Patro - Connecting Nepali Communities
Hamro Patro is one of the first Nepali app to include Nepali Patro, launched in 2010. We started with a Nepali Calendar mobile app to help Nepalese living abroad stay in touch with Nepalese festivals and important dates in Nepali calendar year. Later on, to cater to the people who couldn’t type in Nepali using fonts like Preeti, Ganesh and even Nepali Unicode, we built nepali mobile keyboard called Hamro Nepali keyboard.
