    National Tea Day

    National Tea Day

    Exclusive audio

Tea is an important part of every Nepali’s daily life. In most homes, the day begins with a cup of tea. It brings freshness and energy to our mornings, and serving tea to guests has become a beautiful part of our culture. In Nepal, National Tea Day is celebrated every year on Baisakh 15.

Nepal’s tea journey, which began in the green hills of Ilam and Jhapa, has now crossed more than 150 years. Today, Nepali tea has created its own identity in the global market with its unique taste. In every cup of tea, you can feel the freshness of the eastern hills and the hard work of our farmers.

Even though we produce enough tea, the sector still faces challenges like increasing imports, lack of modern testing laboratories, and unclear market policies. Millions of farmers and workers depend on this industry, but fair pricing and access to technology are still limited. If we focus on better policies, modern technology, and quality, Nepali tea can reach great heights in the world market. National Tea Day reminds us not only to feel proud of our tea but also to take responsibility for its growth and promotion.

May the fragrance of Nepali tea spread even more across the world.

    Happy National Tea Day!

In June 2022, the International Labour Conference (ILC) decided to include “a safe and healthy working environment” in the ILO’s framework of fundamental principles and rights at work.

On 28 April 2026, the ILO will celebrate this decision, bringing together experts and constituents to discuss the implications it has for the world of work, as well as how to practically implement this right in the world of work. It will also serve to implement the findings of research on the implementation status of various provisions of the fundamental Conventions No. 155 and No. 187.

"Is there emergency preparedness at your workplace?"

Background of The World Day for Safety and Health at Work

The World Day for Safety and Health at Work is observed annually on April 28th. The day is dedicated to promoting the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases globally. It is an international campaign led by the International Labour Organization (ILO) to raise awareness of the importance of workplace safety and health. The World Day for Safety and Health at Work is an opportunity to reflect on the importance of protecting workers and creating safe and healthy work environments. The day is also a time to recognize the significant number of people who are affected by work-related accidents and illnesses each year.

    Rationale of the day:

On this day, various activities are organized by governments, employers, workers' organizations, and safety groups to promote the prevention of accidents and injuries in the workplace. These activities may include safety training sessions, workshops, seminars, conferences, and workplace safety campaigns.

The World Day for Safety and Health at Work aims to raise awareness of the need for safe and healthy working conditions for all workers worldwide. It calls on employers, workers, and governments to work together to create safe workplaces and to prevent accidents and injuries. The ultimate goal is to promote the safety and health of workers, improve productivity, and reduce the human and economic costs of workplace accidents and illnesses.
