International Day For Monuments and Sites Special Audio

International Day For Monuments and Sites 2025
In 1982, ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments and Sites) established April 18 as International Day For Monuments and Sites, after which UNESCO adopted the day at its 22nd General Assembly. Each year, on this occasion, ICOMOS offers a theme for its members, national and international scientific committees, working groups and partners, and all those wishing to celebrate this day.

What is the slogan of this year's International Day For Monuments and Sites?
The theme for the 2025 International Day for Monuments and Sites (IDMS) is "Disaster and Conflict Resilient Heritage". This theme focuses on the protection of cultural heritage in the face of natural disasters and armed conflicts, highlighting the need for preparedness, risk mitigation, and emergency response, and also acknowledging ICOMOS's 60 years of actions in this area. The day, which is celebrated on April 18th, encourages individuals, organizations, and institutions to reflect on how to safeguard our shared heritage and celebrate the resilience of cultural sites.

This day provides a timely opportunity to demonstrate strategies promoting the full potential of heritage conservation research and practice, as well as advocating for reducing the carbon footprint by providing climate-enhancing ways to strengthen sustainable development.

    World Heritage Sites
A World Heritage Site (UNESCO) is a landmark or territory protected by an international convention. World Heritage Sites are designated by UNESCO for cultural, historical, scientific or other significance. The sites contain "cultural and natural heritage from around the world that are considered to be of the greatest value to humanity".

The World Heritage site list in Nepal
Nepal is full of cultural and natural diversity. Nepal has 10 natural and cultural heritage sites which are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

    These are:
Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath, Changunarayan, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Patan Durbar Square, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Lumbini, Chitwan National Park and Everest National Park.

On World Heritage Day, many voices of heritage protection are raised around the world. This day is also important for the institutional practice of trying to bring back the idols and arts of our deities sold in the world market by smuggling. Lets protect the heritage from East Mechi to West Mahakali.

    -Suyog Dhakal

Hamro Patro - Connecting Nepali Communities
Hamro Patro is one of the first Nepali app to include Nepali Patro, launched in 2010. We started with a Nepali Calendar mobile app to help Nepalese living abroad stay in touch with Nepalese festivals and important dates in Nepali calendar year. Later on, to cater to the people who couldn’t type in Nepali using fonts like Preeti, Ganesh and even Nepali Unicode, we built nepali mobile keyboard called Hamro Nepali keyboard.
