Pashupatinath Chhaya Darshan | International Day of Women and Girls in Science | Safer Internet Day
The divine day to observe and worship the water reflection of PashupatiNath
श्री पशुपतिनाथ श्लोकः
"यस्य स्मरणमात्रेण पाशबन्धात् प्रमुच्यते।
पशूनां पतिमित्युक्तं तं नमामि पशुपतिम्॥"
Meaning:
"By merely remembering Him, one is freed from the bondage of worldly attachments. I bow to that Lord, who is called Pashupati, the Lord of all beings."
Introduction to holy Pashupat area
In the bank of Bagmati River and under the lap of mountainous range, there lies the supreme form of Lord shiva in the holy Pashupatinath temple. The fate of Bagmati River is to integrate in Ganga and eventually to the ocean, similarly Pashupatinath manifests the ultimate energy and awakening about the life and death of mankind. This is the holiest place for Hindu and a full circle of Hindu pilgrimage is incomplete without stepping in the holy pashupat area. This prehistoric religious avenue is sited in several ancient texts and incidents of sanatan philosophy. Surrounded by devpatan, jayabageshwori, gaurighat, Chabahil, Kutumbahal, Sifal, Gaushala, Pinglasthan and Slesamantak forest, Pashupatinath area extends up to 264 hectares including about 492 temples/ monuments and more than 1000 shivalingas.
Water reflection ritual
Today I will be narrating this specific day when devotees are offered the water reflection glimpse of Pashupatinath. This is not an ordinary ceremony or a mediocre ritual, it happens once a year and is observed by hundreds of devotees. Since several centuries, the local people from Newa community are involved in this divine day. These community people wash the main shivalinga and put on a new crown over it, the water reflection of the shivalinga is created by filling the southern part of temple with water. This divine reflection underneath the open blue February sky is observed by pilgrims and devotees till the dusk.
Lord shiva manifests the energy of creating, protecting and transforming, Pashupatinath itself means the lord of every creatures of this universe. The serene environment of pashupatinath translates a different energy and a new meaning of existence, make sure you don't miss this specific day of observing Shivalinga in its water reflection.
Om Namaha Shivaya
International Day of Women and girls in science 2025
For the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, as well as other internationally accepted development goals, science and gender equality are essential. The international community has worked very hard in the last 15 years to encourage and involve women and girls in science. However, girls and women are still not allowed to actively participate in science.
Welcome to the 10th edition of International Day of Women and girls in science.
Global statistics of women participation in science and technical subjects
Currently, there are fewer than 30% women researchers in the world. UNESCO data from 2014 to 2016 show that just 30% of all female college students chose STEM-related majors. The proportion of female students is particularly low in ICT (3%), natural science, mathematics, and statistics (5%), as well as engineering, manufacturing, and construction (8 per cent). Girls and women are being discouraged from careers in science-related sectors by entrenched biases and gender stereotypes. According to the 2015 Gender Bias Without Borders study by the Geena Davis Institute, only 12% of on-screen characters with recognizable STEM jobs were women, reflecting the same biases that exist in the real world.
Theme 2025:
In 2025, the theme is "Unpacking STEM Careers: Her Voice in Science." This theme emphasizes the importance of amplifying women's perspectives in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields, aiming to inspire and empower more women and girls to pursue and thrive in scientific careers.
In order to achieve full and equal access to and participation in science for women and girls, and further achieve gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, the United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution A/RES/70/212 declaring 11 February as the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
Safer Internet Day 2025
Welcome to Safer Internet Day 2025. Safer Internet Day 2025 will take place on the 11th of February 2025.The theme for Safer Internet Day 2025 is "Too good to be true? Protecting yourself and others from scams online.". This focus is on educating people about identifying and avoiding online scams across various platforms.
Today's world is in dire need of a secure Internet as the world community buys and sells goods and services full-time on the Internet, studies are taught through the Internet, and tea shop gossip is spread to Facebook groups and zooms.
A parallel world runs over the net and the safety of the internet is very crucial.
The 21st edition of Safer Internet Day is being celebrated on February 6, 2024. Safer Internet Day is celebrated every year to promote the safe and positive use of digital technology for children and youth and to promote national dialogue in this regard.
Safe Internet Day is celebrated in more than 170 countries around the world, jointly organized by Insafe / Inhope in collaboration with the European Commission and national secure internet centers across Europe.
Safer Internet in Nepal
Since 2019, ChildSafeNet has been responsible for organizing and promoting Safe Internet Day in Nepal.
ChildSafeNet is a specialized organization dedicated to promoting secure internet for children and youth in Nepal. Since 2019, ChildSafeNet has coordinated and organized various programs for the Safer Internet Day celebration in Nepal. For more information, visit https://www.childsafenet.org
This year, Safer internet day hopes to answer the following questions:
What issues really matter to children and young people?
What changes do they want to see?
How can we all work together to advocate for them moving forward?
With your help, Safer Internet Day 2025 can be a springboard for conversations that shape how we talk about and respond to online issues, not just for one day, but throughout the whole year.
