In the Atharva Veda, three hymns (suktas) are narrated based on the position of the moon. The first is Amavasya or Aunsi Sukta which is recited during Aunsi, then Purnima Sukta and the other is Surya Chandra Sukta which is recited after the first shape of the moon in the days after Aunsi is seen in the sky. In the Atharva Veda, Amavasya Sukta says that Amavasya is a part of coexistence (Samvasati) and it also gives place to the union of the earth and the moon. The new moon is the union of the sun and the moon from the earth's view. The new moon is clearly understood to be the stage before SYZYGY. This day is also called the waning moon because the condition of the moon is very low.
