In the Terai, if the owner of the farm comes to the field to plant paddy himself, it is customary for all the farmers to chase away the landlord by spreading mud. The month of Ashadh has not only social and economic but also literary significance. Various exciting and popular songs have been written and sung in the periphery of Ashadh for generations, such as in the field of planting paddy in the month of Ashadh/ Asar.
