Gunla Parwa Samapti/International Day For The Preservation Of The Ozone Layer

Concluding Gunla Month of Nepal sambat: Gunla Parva ends

Welcome to o the concluding day of Gunlaparva. During this Gunla month, the Gunla festival is celebrated exclusively in the Newa community and in some places where the Newa community is predominant, including the Kathmandu Valley.

    Background of "Gunla Parwa"
The celebration of this festival is found to be more spiritual and contemplative in the Buddhist families of the community. Since Lord Buddha and his followers lived in the same place without traveling during the rainy season, this festival is also considered as a confluence of rain and knowledge. Especially in the Gunla festival celebrated by the Newar community, there is a tradition of going to see Lord Swayambhu in the morning. Today, special music can be heard at the crossroads of the Kathmandu Valley, while the number of devotees visiting various monasteries, temples, and spiritual places is high.

    Bahidya: Swavanegu Newa:
Bahidya: Swavanegu Newa: is a unique part of the culture where there are instruments and music first and then devotees march. Such Jhankis can be seen in abundance in the Kathmandu Valley. Dya: Thayegu is one of the special activities of today. Today, it is customary to make small stupas using raw black clay. In Kathmandu and Lalitpur, it is customary to carry a statue of Panjara, i.e. Buddha, and other saints, and khat (Chariot) representing God in the city, and to collect items such as rice, lentils from the community.

The Buddhist way is a philosophy advocating balance where spirituality, including charity and peace, is highly valued. The statues of Dipankar Buddha and Pauva are special on this day, although Gunla is not just a one-day festival. This festival is celebrated in different ways on different dates of the lunar tithis.

Let's draw the outlines of our daily routine in the open sky and clear clouds that come with the end of the rainy season.
    Good luck to all.

International Day for The Preservation Of The Ozone Layer

    Background:
September 16, 1987, also known as World Ozone Day, commemorates the day Montreal Declaration on Reducing the Production of Harmful Ozone by 24 nations. Such harmful elements include chlorofluorocarbons and 94 other chemicals. This World Ozone Day has been celebrated since 1995.

Remember that ozone, about 15 to 30 km above the Earth's atmosphere, is a protective shield. This prevents the sun's harmful rays from entering the earth directly. Due to human activities and uncontrolled industrialization and the use of excessive chemicals, such ozone layers have begun to deplete and perish.

    Ozone Depletion
Remember that the depleted ozone layer cannot be repaired by humans on their own, and the conservation of ozone is essential for the protection of human beings and civilization. The protection of the zone level requires the availability of reliable means of public transport and the promotion of low fuel consumption means such as bicycles and pedestrians. Similarly, body perfumes and perfumes used in factories are considered to be the primary cause of ozone depletion. Such a substance is called spray aerosol which has been used in the industry for over fifty years.

Such sprays contain chlorofluorocarbons, which reach the ozone layer and combine with the parasitic layer to destroy the ozone and convert it into chlorine. One such molecule of chlorine destroys thousands of ozone molecules.

Without ozone, the sun's harmful rays can lead to an increase in cancer and other diseases, negatively affect the life of aquatic and terrestrial life, and endanger human existence as a whole. In other parts of the world, 20 percent of the ozone layer is depleted, but over Antarctica, 80 percent more ozone has been depleted due to cold weather and chlorine depletion.

    Theme for 2023
The theme for the 2023 International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, to be marked on 16 September, is Montreal Protocol: fixing the ozone layer and reducing climate change.

This reiterates the recent finding by the Scientific Assessment Panel of the positive impact the Montreal Protocol has on climate change, that ozone recovery is on track and how climate challenges can be supported through the Kigali Amendment.

The theme is decided to save the life of people who survive on the Earth to make protect the ozone layer and our environment.
    Meaningful wishes on this day.

Hamro Patro - Connecting Nepali Communities
Hamro Patro is one of the first Nepali app to include Nepali Patro, launched in 2010. We started with a Nepali Calendar mobile app to help Nepalese living abroad stay in touch with Nepalese festivals and important dates in Nepali calendar year. Later on, to cater to the people who couldn’t type in Nepali using fonts like Preeti, Ganesh and even Nepali Unicode, we built nepali mobile keyboard called Hamro Nepali keyboard.
