    सर्वे भवन्तु सुखिनः सर्वे सन्तु निरामयाः,
    सर्वे भद्राणि पश्यन्तु मा कश्चिद् दुःख भाग्भवेत्।

May all be happy, may all be free from disease, may all be witnesses of good deeds, may all renounce anger, may no one be sad. Happy New Year, 2023.

Say goodbye or welcome, the year 2022 is going and the year 2023 is coming.

    Use of A.D in Nepal
Although most of the festivals and office matters of Hamro Patro are based on Vikrama Sambat. Anno Domini is therefore also considered as a visitor and foreign Samvat in Nepal, but since it is the international Samvat, including those living abroad and working in international organizations, is celebrated all over the world, this Samvat has a different reputation and global usefulness.

Hamro Patro also wishes its users a happy year 2023. Vikram Sambat, BS is 57 years ahead of AD and 12 months like January-February is the year that marks the AD year, while Vikram has 12 months like Vaishakh and Jestha.

Quick recap of the gone year 2022
The death of Queen Elizabeth II made the year 2022 painful, on the other hand, the year 2022, the newly elected Prime Minister of England was elected of Indian origin, gave an example of equality and inclusiveness. This year is also the year when the world's population exceeded 8 billion.

On the other hand, the Asian country of Qatar hosted the World Cup in 2022. Argentina, a country with a famous football team and players who have not won the World Cup since 1986, came in 2022 and took home the World Cup.
Death of historian Satyamohan Joshi, the Dengue Pandemic and major road and air accidents added afflictions to the year 2022. However, the year also boght some hopes in the form of newer faces of leaders like Rabi Lamichane, Balen, Harka Sampang and Gopal Hamal.

In each new year, we desire to change something, but most of those desires and promises are lost with the maturing year. The convoy of achievements and positive thinking and progress of this year should stay ahead of you, look back, and focus on the things you have planned. This is your year and it's auspicious for you.

In the year 2023, let the dreams come true and let there be opportunities to move forward to fulfill them, let us get the value of sweat and let the unwavering smile make Nepali faces beautiful.

Nepali National Topi day (Rashtriya Topi Diwas)

The year changes, the calendar does. The measurement of the years is done accordingly and the calendar and the eve are ever-changing. Let's talk about the Nepali hat associated with Nepali nationality and the Rashtriya Topi Diwas which is celebrated every year on January first.

Today we want to recite the glory of this Nepali hat, which signifies the head of Mount Everest, adorning the head of a Gorkhali hero who fearlessly fought in the world wars. Nepali hat is adorned on the head of every Nepali in the form of Mount Everest on the head, and Nepali people have recently been celebrating Nepali Hat Day on January 1 every year.

The stories of the first Rana Prime Minister Jung Bahadur Rana, when he went to Britain in 1840 and saw the attire worn by the Bengali crew. Junga Bahadur replicated the same attire which bought the present coat and the Dhaka hat to Nepal for good. This is the unconfirmed history behind the Dhaka hat. 'Dhaka' is a special type of cloth woven by Nepali hand and the hat made from it is the pride of Nepali.

Looking at the history of the Dhaka hat, we have to look at the reign of the British Empire in India. At that time, hats made in Dhaka Bangladesh were imported to Nepal.

Gradually, this hat made in Dhaka came to be called Dhaka hat, this hat has become synonymous with Nepali pride. Today, Nepal is self-sufficient in Dhaka cloth. Dhaka cloth is produced in many places including Palpa.

Dhaka's clothes, hats, and slippers are considered sacred and dignified in every wedding and ceremony in Nepal. Dhaka hat is indispensable in Nepali dress, there is no meaning in Nepali national dress without Dhaka hat.

This hat is equally important for Nepalis living either in flatlands, mountains, or hills. Or even for those Nepali who are residing abroad. As I wrap my today's write-up, I have a question to ask. Do you have a Nepali hat?

    Happy Rastriya Topi Diwas

Rastriya Poshak Diwas, National Dress day in Nepal

coincidentally, this year, National Hat Day (Rasthriya Topi Diwas) and National Dress Day (Rashtriya Poshak Diwas) have fallen on the same day. On the 17th of Poush, under the slogan "My Dignity, My Identity, National Costume/ Dress Protection Campaign" Starting from Banepa of Kavrepalanchok district in 2070 BS, the National Dress Day is being celebrated not only in Nepal but also by Nepali all over the world.

This day has special significance to keep both the preservation of Nepali dress and the pride of Nepaliness as firm as the summit of Mount Everest.

The main reason for starting National Dress Day is that foreign culture destroys Nepali religion, culture, and even festivals.

The campaign aims to honor the national dress (Daura Suruwal, Topi, Gunyu Choli) which is the international identity of Nepal by declaring it a formal dress. The originality of this day is of special importance to Nepal, which is immersed in the fashion and use of foreign clothes. Today's significance is paramount to redefining the pride and elegance of wearing Nepali dress and to make its use more practical among the youth.

What should be done to reflect Nepaliness?
There are many things like Dhaka Topi, Khukuri, Nepali linguistics and language, national dress, etc. But have we been able to preserve all these things? For the next generation, we have meaningfully preserved the heritage of these things?

We speak Nepali mixed with foreign accent and words, Dhindo and Gundruk are lost, is Nepali topi and dress, at least one pair is with you? Remember, without original identity, the roots of nationality can be confused.

Happy National Dress Day, meaningful wishes.

    Suyog Dhakal

Hamro Patro - Connecting Nepali Communities
Hamro Patro is one of the first Nepali app to include Nepali Patro, launched in 2010. We started with a Nepali Calendar mobile app to help Nepalese living abroad stay in touch with Nepalese festivals and important dates in Nepali calendar year. Later on, to cater to the people who couldn’t type in Nepali using fonts like Preeti, Ganesh and even Nepali Unicode, we built nepali mobile keyboard called Hamro Nepali keyboard.
