Matsyanath Rathyatra commences: Longest Jatra of Yala City

The Jatra of Bungdyo officially starts from today, let's embark on this ancient chariot festival with utmost gratitude and compassion within. The 32 hands tall chariot is gloriously equipped with the soul idol of Avalokitswora Matsyandrnath, a holy God and Siddha yogi of Hindu and Buddhist both manifests. The ancient city of Patan (Yala City) has been prehistorically uniformly organizing this chariot procession (Jatra) to celebrate the joy of heavy rain when famine took place in Kantipur valley.

The sky touching chariot is constructed in Sikhar pattern (Mountain like pattern), the wooden edifice is about 15 to 20 meters in height and 4.5 meters in diameter.

From the construction of Chariot till the Bhoto Jatra, this longest Jatra has a process of 2 months. Bhoto Jatra relates the incident of finding a real owner of a divine vest 9Bhoto) which was gifted to a farmer by a serpent king. People of eight localities in Patan—Natol, Gabahal, Mekhabahal, Kusunti, Kayanni, Walmaya, Dhaugol, and Sachhi Chhe—usually lead the Machhindranath chariot procession. This chariot brings an ancient relevance, it is believed that ancient Lichivi King Narendra Deb brought the idol of Rato Matsandrnath from Assam India to rid his kingdom of the drought. This chariot procession also marks the beginning monsoon in Nepal, clouds have arrived with water and hope within.

This year is adverse, commemorations are forbidden, Avalokitswora has an eye upon us and his grace is pervasive. Utmost wishes of the commencing chariot procession.

Hamro Patro is one of the first Nepali app to include Nepali Patro, launched in 2010. We started with a Nepali Calendar mobile app to help Nepalese living abroad stay in touch with Nepalese festivals and important dates in Nepali calendar year. Later on, to cater to the people who couldn’t type in Nepali using fonts like Preeti, Ganesh and even Nepali Unicode, we built nepali mobile keyboard called Hamro Nepali keyboard.
