A day on the visibility of the transgender population : March 31st

Every year on March 31, International Transgender Day of Visibility is observed. This is dedicated to Transgender people by raising awareness of discrimination faced by transgender people globally as well as the acknowledgment of their contribution to society. To other people, it’s the day where you can show your support to the transgender population. This day was established by a US-based Trans woman Rachel Crandall in 2009. The day was begun to be observed to increase social acceptance and establishment of rights of the transgender population by increasing their visibility at a context where the Trans population is largely left behind.

The first time it was observed in Nepal is in 2019, at Fibwa Khya ( Maitighar Mandala ). Transgender people have a gender identity that differs from their assigned sex. People who were assigned female and identify as man, are trans men while people assigned male and identify as women are trans women. Being transgender does not determine their sexual orientation and Trans people have diverse sexual orientations. Transgender people can be heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, pansexual, and asexual and so on. Being transgender is different from being third gender or non-binary, as trans people identify within the binary as man or woman.

The world needs to meet the commitment towards diversity and inclusion, and integrate transgender people in their mainstream plans and peripheral strategies. Best wishes

    Suyog Dhakal

Hamro Patro - Connecting Nepali Communities
Hamro Patro is one of the first Nepali app to include Nepali Patro, launched in 2010. We started with a Nepali Calendar mobile app to help Nepalese living abroad stay in touch with Nepalese festivals and important dates in Nepali calendar year. Later on, to cater to the people who couldn’t type in Nepali using fonts like Preeti, Ganesh and even Nepali Unicode, we built nepali mobile keyboard called Hamro Nepali keyboard.
